Cheers to 3 years!

Monday, July 9th, we celebrated 3 years of marriage, marking 11 years together. We met when we were teenagers and have truly grown up together. It hasn't always been perfect everyday, but we've made the decision to work at it. We've had our share of ups and downs, especially in the last few months, but we're stronger now than ever. Nick does two important things for me everyday-he makes me laugh and he's my best friend. There's no one else I'd want by my side on this crazy journey.

We celebrated this year by venturing out to the North End, we had great food, 

nice weather, and of course, a canolli! 

Look for the helpers....

This tragedy in Boston, a city which I have called home for the past 8 years has rocked me to my core. It is so horrifying and frightening that something like this could happen, so close to home...you just never think something like this can happen. It's been tough celebrating a birthday and welcoming a new year of life when there are so many heavy hearts around this city. But that's what we have tried to do, because in the face of evil, we can't back down. There is more good in this world than bad and in the end, good will always win.

Watching the events unfold on the news has just been heartbreaking, but I've found comfort in an old Mr. Roger's quote, that is often brought up when tragedy hits, and it's rang so true to me lately:

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day, especially in times of “disaster,” I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.

Throughout this tragedy, there are so many helpers that have come through. I've been so comforted by the outpouring of kindness, love and support during this time. From the people that finished the race and then ran right on to the area hospitals to donate blood, to the man who lives a block away and passed out juice and snacks to the wounded, to the people who live on the marathon route right near the school I work at who opened their homes to those needing a place to stay. The kindness of people has shone through in a huge way and I am so proud of this city. We have showed the world how tough we are and how selfless we are. It's been a huge glimmer of light amidst the darkness of this evil act.

As our president stated, "Boston is a tough and resilient town.  So are its people.  I’m supremely confident that Bostonians will pull together, take care of each other, and move forward as one proud city."

Cha-cha-changes!

Well, it's official-we're moving to the burbs! After 4 wonderful years in Brighton, an opportunity came up for us to rent out in the burbs and we're taking it. We're hoping going to save lots of money in hopes of a future home/babies :) and Brighton is just not cutting it with the money-saving. The lots of fun, lots of walking, lots of shops, bars and restaurants-yes, money saving-no :(

Although we're super sad to see our Brighton days go, we know we're doing the right thing for our family (I guess this means we're growing up or something.....) and if you know me, you know I don't do well with change, but I really am trying my best. I'll be putting on my big girl pants and putting a smile on (or at least trying to) as we embark on the next adventure of our lives :) (See, I'm putting a positive spin on things!)

In the mean time, here's a sneak peak at our new apartment.  Don't mind the mess, it's getting all cleaned, fixed and prettied up for our arrival :) I promise I'll have some after pics in a few days!

A Morning Walk

This morning, the weather was awesome-sunny, not to hot, a cool breeze, it was almost too good to be true. So after dropping off N at work, Gertie and I decided to walk around the grounds (natch).  He works outside of Boston right next to a wildlife sanctuary-the kind with paths, and short fences- nothing too exciting.

The sanctuary was so peaceful early in the morning and we even saw some wildlife-okay a hen/pheasant thing but hey, it's Boston, so we take what we can get!

Then I found out the property was built on the grounds of an old mental institution....think shutter island, without the island...then we came across a super creepy abandoned building, probably the main house.

And of course when I try to sneak in some exercise by doing some 'high knees' Gertie came at me with a vengenance...how dare I try and work out while we're walking....it's serious business...

But don't worry, we made up and we're friends again:

My husband and I love Fenway Park, and going to college down the street, I have sooo many great memories of the place. And with amazing seats,  a walk off home run win last night by Ellsbury, fenway franks, and my awesome in-laws? It was basically the perfect night!
